Geocache Description:

Onalaska's second oldest cache.

A short walk, about 1/4 mile long, on a path that overlooks Lake Onalaska.

(It's actually part of the Great River Bike Trail which runs 14 miles up to Trempeauleau, WI.) There are railroad tracks nearby, but if you go anywhere near them, you are off course or you need a new GPS unit.

Recommended parking is at N 43 53.852 W 091 14.488 to access the trail. If you're familiar with the area, you may be aware of other alternate access points to the trail that you can use.

The cache is a brown tupperware-type container.

Note: If you happen to bike to the cache, a trail fee is required. (There's never a fee for pedestrians, though.)

You’ll be strolling along Lake Onalaska, which was formed in 1937 with the creation of Lock and Dam 7 on the Mississippi River.

Long before the lake was created, Onalaska was a booming lumber town in the late 1800's. Logs floated down the Black River (which also feeds Lake Onalaska) each spring from the pineries of the Black River Basin. These flotillas of logs would've flowed right along the shore where you are hiking.

Not Winter Friendly.
