Cache-tech: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have had no contact with the cache owner since my last note and there has been no notes posted to the cache page in that time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache.
When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link (Mine) across the top and then click on this cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:


I hope this cache is in a location that visitors to St.John's can visit easily. You can drive close to this location or enjoy a brisk up hill walk from several hotels. I doubt you will find this when the snow is on the ground.

The theme is tattoo's and I ask that you bring some temporary tattoo's to trade. (although this type of tattoo has nothing to do with the namesake). If no tattoo's then lapel pins.

Below is a short history lesson

The Signal Hill Tattoo is performed each summer on O’Flaherty Field one of the sites where defenses were erected during the War of the Spanish Succession (1702-1713),which resulted in the withdrawal of French troops from Placentia and the establishment of Fortress Louisbourg, and the Seven Years War (1756-1763), which ended forever the danger of French attack in North America.

The name Tattoo originates from the military tradition of shutting off beer keg taps at the end of the evening. This practice served to notify soldiers to return to their quarters. In the early 17th century, "taptoe" became tattoo, symbolizing a military display. The return to quarters signal also became more involved over the years, first with a drummer and then with a drum, pipe and bugle.
