Geocache Description:

Eight geocaches have been placed in Dayton Cyn by Kurious Kate and Lady Lamont. Fire in Sept 2005 ravaged this area! Some caches survived and the others have been replaced. Look for CHUMASH CAVE, ROCKY ROAD, SAVORY SAGE, SEARED SUMAC, SUPER STAPLE, AND SYCAMORE SANCTUARY. Two new ones were placed January 25, 2007 - AQUA OBSCURA AND THE MATRIACH.

There have been changes in the Dayton Canyon area the past year. The proposed development to the east, which had blocked off the lower access, has apparently stalled due to a variety of environmental problems. The property is now For Sale. We walked out the lower end of the canyon through cuts in the fence and out the road leading to Valley Circle. There was no one at security and the gate was wide open.

There is another exit from lower Dayton Canyon which heads NE up the hill and exits at Deerlick Road and Valley Circle. This could also be used as an entrance. Kurious Kate and I parked a car at VC and another one at Upper Dayton to avoid backtracking. Easy parking at N 34 14.092, W 118 39.546.
