Geocache Description:

The Highvale mine is one of three TransAlta-owned surface coal mines and has
been in operation since 1970. It is the largest surface strip coal mine in
Canada covering 33,592 acres. Total capacity is 450 million tons of recoverable
coal with annual production of 12.5 million tons.

This is an easy cache with a great close-up view of an active strip mine. Park on the approach W of the cache site. The cache is located on the road allowance, so trespassing is not an issue. While seeking this cache, you should be able to observe draglines, haul trucks, and other fun toys work the pit.

Enjoy the view!
