The Retzer Nature Center was originally the retirement home of John
& Florence Retzer. Their vision was "to conserve the scenery,
natural life and wildlife, leaving the land unimpaired for the
enjoyment of future generations." The original 90 acres was
purchased in 1938. In 1973, the property was bequeathed to Waukesha
County Parks. Land acquistions have greatly expanded this nature
center to make it what it is today. A Planetarium addition opened
in May of 2005. It was the vision of the Retzer family that this
area be open to all so that is why there is no admission fee
charges.
THE RETZER NATURE CENTER IS OPEN DAILY FROM SUNRISE UNTIL
10:00 PM. IF YOU VISIT BETWEEN 8:00 AM AND 4:30 PM, THE VISITOR'S
CENTER WILL BE OPEN AND YOU MIGHT LIKE TO EXPLORE THAT AS WELL.
PLEASE RESPECT THESE HOURS! WE ARE DEVELOPING A GOOD WORKING
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WAUKESHA COUNTY FOR GEOCACHING AND NEED TO BE
RESPECTFUL OF THE RULES. PLEASE STAY ON ESTABLISHED TRAILS.
WILDLIFE CAN BECOME EASILY STRESSED, PLEASE LEAVE DENS AND NESTS
ALONE. PLEASE RESPECT THE GROUNDS, NO PICKING OF FLOWERS OR PLANTS.
