Four Mile River Bug Hotel Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

Located at boat launch on Four Mile River in South Lyme

THIS CACHE IS A TRAVEL BUG HOTEL AN IS NOT INTENDED FOR THE TRADE OF OTHER ITEMS!

Intended to be an easy and convenient find for the quick transfer of travel bugs, this hotel is located at a quiet and relaxing and beautiful spot for those who need to take a short break from their travels.

It is a standard ammo can, 7"x5.5"x11". Reception here is excellent, and coordinates were averaged over 5 minutes. When you are at ground zero you should be within 7 feet. You can do this at night, but you will definitely need a flashlight, as there are no lights whatsoever where it is located. There is a port-o-let at the outer parking area, but it may be seasonal. Therefore, we did not hide the cache there. Well, we had other reasons as well! There are no other facilities, just salt-marsh. Snow should not preclude accessing this cache. While you could get there by horse, hot air balloon would be a lot more difficult and is not recommended due to proximity of high power lines above the AMTRAK rail bed about a mile south. One could easily get to this from Long Island Sound via boat, as long as the boat does not have a very deep draft and you pay attention to the tidal shift. This is a popular spot for kayakers and canoeists. This is also a popular spot to let one's dogs run, but keep in mind it is a SALT MARSH! That may mean a stinky muddy wet dog getting back in the car...Depending on the season, gnats and mosquitos may abound; Lyme is the home of Lyme Disease, born by the deer tick...travelers are encouraged to take the appropriate precautions.

This hotel is located about 1.9 mles as the car drives from exit 72 on I95 in Connecticut. Exit 72 is between I395 which goes more directly north and CT state route 9, which heads towards Hartford. When you exit I95, head south (west) on state route 156, and look for the boat launch signs and follow them.

This is Travel Bug Hotel, intended to assist in the movement of travel bugs towards their goals. Many hotels feature a significant number of restrictions and rules. This one is pretty basic. If you can help a bug move towards its goal, take it and do so. If you have a bug that needs to be placed in an easily accessible location without taking too much of your time, so that it will be moved again soon, we're your venue. There are no minimums, no maximums, no limits, just help the bugs move.
