Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series on caches that are a tribute to Western North Carolina’s first-rate cache placers; NC_Ron&Dianne.

After several trips to Western North Carolina to cache, I am happy to say that I have found a good many of Ron and Dianne’s caches. They are some of the best of their kind when it comes to basics of cache placements. They seem to follow a few simple unwritten rules that I have listed below:

* They take you on a well maintained trail to a beautiful spot.

* They are placed in an easy to locate place (usually the first place you might look).

* The name of the cache usually is directly related to the cache location.

* No multi-caches

* Their cache containers are recycled containers (face cream, margarine tubs and ice cream tubs). This is the one rule I did not follow because it is hard to maintain 100 plus caches and because I happen to have a pallet load of ammo boxes in my garage.

This area in the knobs of central Kentucky is owned by Hardin County. It is being developed into a mountain bike and hiking area. To get to this area from Elizabethtown it is best to exit I 65 at exit 94 and drive East on US 62 approximately 6 plus miles, turn right onto 583 then drive 1.25 miles and turn onto Miller Road. Drive Miller Road until you pass through a tunnel under the BG Parkway and then park in the field just after the bridge across the creek. It is best to take the Youngers Creek trial that is next to the bridge for this hike.

I hope you enjoy this hike and if you are ever in the Brevard area of North Carolina you might want to look up their caches.
