La foce del fiume Arno si trova
presso Marina di Pisa, poco a nord di Livorno ed ad ovest di
Pisa; è nota dai toscani come "Bocca d'Arno", ed è costellata
di tipici casotti, dotati di reti da pesca, detti "bilance" o
"retoni".
La riva destra del fiume non è normalmente accessibile, in
quanto appartenente al Parco di San Rossore, mentre lungo la riva
sinistra, dove la cache è posizionata, scorre il lungo viale
alberato che dalla Porta a Mare di Pisa conduce a Marina di
Pisa.
Il panorama visibile da Bocca d'Arno è molto suggestivo,
soprattutto al tramonto: in giornate abbastanza terse sono
facilmente visibili, decorati dai retoni nel centro del fiume, le
alpi Apuane ed i monti Pisani, ed i numerosi paesi costieri a nord
(Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, ecc).
A Bocca d'Arno sono anche presenti alcuni chioschi che vendono
frutti di mare freschi, che suggerisco vivamente agli amanti del
genere.
Gabriele d'Annunzio, nel 1899, ha composto proprio a Marina di
Pisa, un'ode a Bocca d'Arno, evento ricordato con una
targa posta su un masso in riva al mare, a circa trecento metri
a sudovest della cache.
ATTENZIONE: nei periodi di intensa attività vegetativa, è
possibile che il luogo si riempia di erbacce e roveti, quindi si
consigliano pantaloni lunghi e scarpe chiuse.

The estuary of Arno river
is near the small village of Marina di Pisa, few kilometers to
the north of Lighorn, and to the west of Pisa; it is called by
tuscan people as "Bocca d'Arno" (Arno's mouth), and there is
plenty of small fishermen's wooden shelters, with tipical
fishing-nets, named "retoni" (big nets) or "bilance"
(trawl-nets).
The right bank of the river is not accessible, since it is part
of San Rossore natural park, but along the left bank, where the
cache is located, runs the tree-lined boulevard that begins at
Pisa's "Porta a Mare" (Sea Gate) and brings to Marina di Pisa.
The view from Bocca d'Arno is very beautiful, in particular
during the sunset: when the sky is very clear it is easy to see the
Apuan alps and the Pisan mountains, and the coastal towns to the
north (VIareggio, Forte dei Marmi, etc).
At Bocca d'Arno there are some kiosks too, selling seafoods, that I
strongly suggest to the lovers of this kind of dishes...
The Gabriele d'Annunzio poet wrote in 1899, at Marina di Pisa,
an ode to Bocca d'Arno; this event is remembered
by a sign over a big rock near the see, at about 300 m SW from
the cache.
WARNING: during strong vegetative activity periods (e.g.
latest spring, summer) it is possible that intrusive wild herbs and
bushes will fill the place, so long trousers and closed shoes are
suggested.
