PARK AT 41* 30.772 N 86*41.347 W Park on the edge of the circle across from the medium blue house (our house) Would love to meet ya. NO NIGHT CACHING!!! Approved by home owners' association.
Welcome to the K.O.P. Circle where you can see 21 original homes that were built in 1941 for officers' housing. This area is part of the 13,000 acres of land purchased by the U. S. government in 1940 for the development of the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. The homes were privitely acquired beginning in 1963 and sold for $14,500-$19,500. Although the United States had not officially entered World War II, government officials efficiently and rapidly mobilized for war as they selected a site, purchased the land, and then built the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in 15 months. It sprang like magic from open fields in this area. Four thousand construction workers put more than 13,000,000 hours into this project. Two hundred and fifty families had to sell their land and homes as a matter of national defense. They were given 30 days to vacate the grounds! The villages of Tracy and Union Center were eliminated. The building and operating of the K.O.P. brought the largest number of immigrants to LaPorte since the 1910's. Interest in the munitions plant drew hundreds of people to the Kingsbury neighborhood causing big traffic jams. Over 80 miles of railroad tracks and 134 miles of highway wound through the K.O.P.. By the time the K.O.P. was completed, the U.S. had joined the Allies in declaring war against Japan, Germany, and Italy.
