Come one, come all to the 2005 NYGO State Picnic! Mark your
calendar and save the date, this is an event you won't want to
miss!
On August 13, 2005, we invite you to the New York
Geocaching Organization's (NYGO) 3rd Annual Picnic being held at
Bowman Lake State Park. The park is located 8 miles West of Oxford,
NY in Chenango County.
Bowman Lake State Park is a remote sylvan retreat known as "a
camper's paradise." Scenic park roads wind through evergreen and
hardwood forests to shady campsites. There is a sandy lakefront for
swimmers and sunbathers with several picnic areas nearby. The lake
is regularly stocked with trout, and birdwatchers can spot as many
as 103 species of birds. The park also has a nature center that
stocks a self-guiding trail brochure for those who wish to stroll
the nature trail around the lake.
Consider coming for the event, and staying for the weekend at this
camper's paradise. There will even be a Sunday morning pancake
breakfast!
If you prefer hotel or Bed & Breakfast type accomodations, the
following links may be helpful: www.oxfordny.com/about/lodging.php

This will be an action-packed, activity-filled extravaganza! There
will be raffles with prizes, games, activities for the kids, event
caches, and as always - lots of food!
Best Decorated Geo-Tshirt!
Kids - here's your chance to show us your creative side. There will
be a prize for the best decorated geo-tshirt. Be sure to wear your
decorated shirt to the event.
(ages 12 and under)
Photo Contest
Show off your photography skills - bring in your best geocaching
photos. We will compile all the photos and allow everyone to vote
for their favorite after lunch. Photos must be taken while
geocaching in New York State, unframed, size 4" x 6". Please mark
your geocaching name on the back of the photo. You can submit your
entries at the registration desk in the morning. They will be
available for pick up at the end of the day if you wish to have
them returned to you.

There is a $6 Park Fee unless you have an Empire Pass. We have
reserved a pavillion for the day, so it will be held rain or shine.
If you would like to help out, there are several things you can
do.
- Food: We need someone to once again organize food and
keep a list of who is bringing what.
- Prizes/GiveAways: Consider donating an item for our
raffle! Last year we had some really spectacular prizes donated by
our members. Please let
us know if you or your company would be interested in
contributing something.
Everyone that donates a geo-raffle prize (or bring donated
prizes), will receive free raffle tickets!
- General: We'll need some people to volunteer to help out
with cooking, clean up, activity running, Travel Bugs,
etc.
If you plan to attend please post a note (not a find) and let us
know the number of people who will be in your party, as well as
what you will bring for the potluck.
Updates:
- Rusty O Junk will have 50-cal ammo cans available for $3
each. They may need a paint job as they have been stored outdoors,
but they are in good condition otherwise. Be sure to look for him
at the picnic if you are interested.
- Breaking Away will be bringing the Adam's Postcard TB.
It was created to teach a 5-year-old about geography. They are
looking for some NY memorabilia (pins, bumper stickers, trinkets,
etc.) which they will send to him after the event. If you would
like to contribute, they will have a cache box available to collect
the items.
