Geocache Description:

This cache is handicap accessible although some help may be needed to actually retrieve the cache. You can park within 50 feet of the hide.

You will be looking for a tiny container, so small items for trade are preferred. Included in this cache are a log sheet, small pencil, and a few coin size items.
This cache is hidden near a familiar image of the flag raising on the 2 mile by 4 mile island of Iwo Jima after its capture from Japan. My father who served in World War II is one of the remaining survivors who got to see the actual flag being raised. He was stationed on a ship, the USS Dickens, anchored in the bay at the time of its raising. His ship APA 16 (Amphibious Personnel Attack ship) released 26 of the hundreds of landing boats to attack the island. The invasion started on February 19th 1945. The island was to be taken in 3 days. The final capture was secured on March 26th and many brave lives were lost. The capture of this island was an important part of getting the Japanese to surrender and bring the war to an end.
Bring your camera and happy caching.
