Geocache Description:

rumrunners at the cove - by tinkernoonoo

Maybe there were rum runners here during the prohibition, maybe there weren't. Renowned (and possibly spurious) local historian, Col. Cy Pottinger-Plewes (Ret.), seems to think there were*:

This is a two-stage hunt. The above coordinates should lead you to a quiet spot overlooking Deep Cove, perfect for watching sunsets, where you'll have to discover the hidden coordinates for the final stage. These hidden coordinates may be nautical (or not) - but there is absolutely no disturbing of vegetation required..

The main cache is a camo'd 2.6 litre lock'n'lock, hidden just off a trail in a little-used park (great for picnics), only strolling-distance away. There is no real bushwacking required (just some dodging of branches and other vegetation), so please stay on the trails, respect private property and the "private drive" signs - not to mention the ecosystem - and be as discreet as possible (re-hiding carefully, of course)! A guide to North Saanich parks, trails, and beach accesses can be downloaded as a PDF here.

(I give special thanks to cacher extraordinaire Half-Canadian for inspiring the first stage of this cache!)

*He happens to be mistaken - according to bona fide local historian Nell Horth, it was Canoe Cove!
