Geocache Description:

A standard cache hidden close to Newstead Abbey, which has lovely peaceful grounds.

There are a range of ways you can get to the vicinity of this cache. It is sited just off the Robin Hood Way (Nottinghamshire's long distance footpath) with access points off B6020 or B683 (where the route takes you past GCY337 Jack's Cache). Or you can drive into the Abbey grounds (there is a charge) from the east (Ravenshead) or west (Newstead village). National Cycle Route 6 passes east-west through the grounds, and the Sherwood Forester Leisure Bus serves the Abbey during the summer (see (visit link) My favourite way is to park at N53 05.571 W001 11.444 walk through the Newstead Hospital Woodland Trust area to pick up the RHW. This takes about 30 minutes to get to the cache but there are fascinating gimpses of back gardens etc, and there are some seats to rest along the way

The title of the cache comes from the fact that the Abbey's most famous occupier was Lord Byron (for more information see (visit link)

The cache is located slightly away from the main tourist area but still has interesting views of the famous west front. The cache is a 0.4l screw top container, blackened to help with camouflage - although not in nettles, goves might be useful!
