This cache is about a half-mile walk (one way) in easy terrain only about 100 feet off of a well-marked trail.
I FINALLY got back to visit it again in June 2010!!! I apologize to all the folks who've found it since then. I promise to do better. My friends and I have resolved to re-visit AT LEAST once a year so we can develop the pictures, which I have done with the first camera. So, if you found Lone Star #2, I've uploaded the pictures. Check 'em out!
Now, I've replenished and re-filled Lone Star #2 with new fun stuff and a new camera. I also did the same for nearby Lone Star #1, which had been burned up in a grass fire, so go check it out, too! - JBE, 6/27/2010
Lone Star # 2 was placed on Friday, June 10, 2005. The cache is a large green ammo can with "Official Geocache" stickers on each side. It originally contained: two small flags (One American and one Republic of Texas!); a whistle/compass; a yo-yo; a small piggy bank; 2 AA batteries; a "Pick-Up-Sticks" Game; and, a disposable camera (for each finder to take his or her picture).
For directions from Houston, check out the excellent directions to "Berry Patch" (Waypoint: GCP36X). Just continue on down Bethel Road to the Lone Star Hiking Trail parking area at N 30 30.647 W 095 45.413. Cross Bethel Road and enter the Lone Star Hiking Trail. Head southeast on the L.S.H.T. to the junction with the North Wilderness Trail at N 30 30.412 W 095 45.157. There's a trail junction sign at this location. Then head east on the North Wilderness Trail.
While you're in this area, there are a number of other good caches within about a 10 mile radius in the Sam Houston National Forest. You could pick up Berry Patch, Lone Star # 1, Lone Star # 2, and Fallen Timber in a 4-hour, or maybe less, series of hikes through this beautiful forest.
