Geocache Description:

An Offset Multicache. Taking you on an approx 45 min walk along some of the North Downs Way and then through Godmersham Park.

Jane Austen spent some time at Godmersham Park Mansion between 1794 and 1813, and she possibly based two of her novels, Persuasion and Mansfield Park, on her experiences here of local Kentish society.

The original small very well disguised cache was destroyed during some land clearance. I have replaced it with another very well disguised quite small cache (but not quite a micro) containing only the cache document, a log and a pencil. There is no room for anything else.

There is good off-road parking available on the bend at: N 51 13.871 E 00 57.264 (Mountain Street) via the picturesque village of Chilham, where you can enjoy refreshments afterwards.

To find the clues, and ultimately the cache, there is no need to go outside the boundaries of any public right of way.

ROUTE FOR CLUES

From the recommended car park go through gate onto the North Downs Way and follow it until you reach a track junction with a wooden gate. This is Clue 1. How many letters are there on the black sign with the yellow arrows? Minus 1 = V

Take the rocky track uphill along the North Downs Way until at the top you see a metal gate on your left. This is Clue 2. Number of horizontal bars on the gate plus 2 = W. Number of North Down Way signs on the solitary wooden post opposite the gate, plus 2 = Z.

Go through the metal gate following the North Downs Way along the inside edge of the wood until you see the Forestry Commission sign for Kings Wood. On your left is a stile at the edge of the wood leading to a footpath across a field. This is Clue 3. How many letters in the 6th word of the Kent County Council sign on this stile? Minus 1 = X

Follow the public footpath across the field to another stile and continue down into Godmersham park following the public footpath marker posts until you reach a clearly defined track. Follow this downhill through a gate to the track junction near a house with blue doors in Godmersham Park. This is Clue 4. How many letters in the name of the house overlooking this track junction? Minus 6 = Y. This will give you the final part of the cache coordinates. Follow a public footpath to the cache area.

The cache is at: Northing 51 V.W8Z Easting 00 5X Y03
