The Old Man and the River (Veterans Park) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

WGA2: I noticed that this cache has remained temporarily disabled for a period of time well in excess of the period of ‘a few weeks’ as contemplated by the cache guidelines published on Geocaching.com. For now, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact me at the below e-mail address when you have the cache repaired, and assuming it still meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past.

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

Veterans Park is a neighborhood park located on Memorial Drive just south of the Fox River on the west side of Appleton. Veterans Park is the city's smallest park (two acres) and has a playground.

Based on the difficulty of finding parking in the area (off of Memorial Drive on a side street), the path to get to the cache and the location of the cache itself, we believe it is a 4-4.5 for terrain and 3 for difficulty.

There is a trail located at N44 15.100 W88 24.959 which will take you down a steep slope. Jerryskids does not recommend attempting this cache during rainfall or immediately after as you would be sliding down the trail on your backside. Even on dry days getting down (and especially up) can be a challenge.

The cache is an ammo box and was filled with all sorts of items from light sticks, notebook, plastic baggies, 35mm film canister, decks of cards, an "exercise cube", etc..

Please wedge the ammo box back in tightly once it's retrieved. Work it out slowly once you find it so you don't go for a swim!

The cache was named for an older man who was seen canoeing near the shoreline early Sunday afternoons. He told us he was just "checking out what was going on at the river's edge."
