This cache has a horse theme as asked for by my children. Please
trade-in any horse related trinkets (the initial content is all
horse related). The cache is a wide ammo box.
Trailhead horse cache is a child-friendly cache, found by taking
a nice little hike in a little green oasis in between
subdivisions.
The best place to park is at the Trailhead Park parking lot at
N30 26.322
W97 49.319. Walk to the back of the park, behind the beach
volleyball court. Here you will find a small paved path. This is
the beginning of your journey.
The hike (from the parking lot) is about 0.8 mile long. My 5
& 7 year old did it without any problem. I carried my 3 year
old for the second half of the walk on the way back. There is a 100
ft section at the end of the paved trail by the benches that
requires going through a short steep rocky trail;
Update 9/27/2008 Once are down at the level of the trail
along a Bull Creek tributary, take the new trail on the right that
goes into the woods. The start of the trail is just before a
manhole and is within 100 feet of the curve at the bottom of the
rocky trail.
This new trail is very beautiful and will lead you to 30 feet from
the cache.
The path is in the shape of a semi-circle. At the beginning your
GPSr will tell you to go to the right (or south), but you should
stay on the path.
Know that I did it with my 3 children, ages 3, 5 and 7. So, if
you end up going through thick brush, etc., there is a better
way.
Have fun, and watch out for ant hills and poison ivy like any
other place in the area.
PS: If you have found the cache prior to 9/27/2008, feel free
to claim a new smiley if you find it in the new location.
Congratulations FTF, Stratman
