The KettleCache is the Salvation Army's flagship event to celebrate 100 years of service in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
For those wanting to know more about the competition, visit http://www.kettlecache.com
As for our Geocache event, FREE to attend,
We will be meeting at Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday the 23rd of July. The event will start at 8am and run until about 6pm.
This event is open to all Geocachers, whether you are competing in the Salvation Army's KettleCache 2005, or not.
Mt. Trashmore has a lot to offer in ways of things to do. There are playgrounds for the little ones, a skate park and volleyball courts for the middle ones, and horseshoe pits for the older ones. Don't forget to bring a kite!
There are picnic tables and grills provided by the park for your use. Restrooms are situated nearby.
As for the event attractions, local Geocaching Hampton Roads Virginia group will be operating a Geocaching table. On display will be, pictures of local Geocache containers, of various size and styles. We will also have on display actual cache containers. Containers will range in size from Micro to Ammo cans.
There will also be a Travel Bug exchange set up. There is suppose to be a lot of cachers from other near-by states, so, this should be a good opportunity to your TB's moving onward and elsewhere!
There will also be a series of "mock" Geocaches placed of many different types and sizes. So, if you want to bring someone along to introduce them to caching, we have 6 caches in place within a .25 mile, which we know you'll never see in real life. We even have a multi-cache and a virtual!
In order to log this event as a find, all you need to do is stop by the Geocaching Hampton Roads Virginia table, "find" the logbook and log in! It's that easy! We are sure you will find something to do to keep you there awhile.
As part of the days events taking place, with the Salvation Army's KettleCache 2005, there will be a "special events" area complete with representatives of the various sponsors of the Salvation Army's KettleCache 2005. Sponsors can be viewed at the KettleCache 2005 website indicated above. There will be various radio stations broadcasting live from the park. A "canteen truck" is scheduled to be on hand for the purchase of food and drinks.
So, whether you are competing, or just want to log a quick "find", stop by Mt. Trashmore and check us out! You might just like what you see!
**July 19th, 2005 Additional Information - There will be food provided by Chick-fil-A for paid competitors of the Salvation Army's KettleCache 2005 Event.
Food will be available from the "canteen" truck for all other visitors of the Geocache event, cachers and non-cachers alike.
Please, all visitors, competitors, and volunteers, pay attention to the parking attendants at Mt. Trashmore, they are there to guide you to the proper parking area.
Thats all for now! See you Saturday!!
