This charming village, much of which is owned by the National Trust, is very popular for sailing and windsurfing due to its lovely sandy beach in the sheltered bay and its fine views across Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. The area is also renowned for its good birdwatching
We come here a lot, at any time of year. Whether it’s in the summer to sit on the beach or in winter, just for a stroll to blow away the cobwebs. Then we usually go for a hot chocolate or pint in the Ship Inn just up in the village. Lovely place, nice food and real ale, what more could you want?
Except maybe a cache! Well now there’s one of those too. Best place to park is in the village car park, just past the old church, pay and display £2:00 for the day, up to 6pm, or you can park on the verge by the church for free, you're not allowed to take cars into the village, residents only.
There are many different ways to and from this cache site, along the wide path by the church, you can also, get to it most of the way along the beach, or via the cliff path, take your pick. Best time to go is on a clear day; the views across to Beadnell Bay are fantastic.
THE CACHE IS AT THE TOP OF THE CLIFF, BUT ABOUT 20 FEET FROM THE EDGE. IT IS SAFE, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL IN BAD / WINDY WEATHER AS IT COULD GET SLIPPERY.
I hope you enjoy this part of the Northumberland coast as much as we do.
