Geocache Description:

A hard climb up a route that appears less used than previously. Stunning views. Not good for anyone afraid of heights.

27/3/2011 a replacement cache was laid about 4m below the original at S33°57.083 / E018°26.929
Park in the Rhodes Memorial parking area or at Newlands Forest and proceed up towards the King's Block-house S33°57.026 E18°27.019 at 427m
As you look up the corner from the blockhouse to the ruined firewatchers hut (S33°57.077 E18°26.551 at 502m) it is hard to believe theres a way up without needing ropes, but there is a path and it is not nearly as bad as it looks. My dogs do it and only need a little bit of help - which is where the name "Push and Shove" comes from. Ruksha, my dear old Rottie-X, did it when she was 13!

Once you've found the cache if you have time for a good walk, continue up towards the ruined firewatchers hut. Just after a wooden pole, the middle contour path branches off to the right (West). Trousers are advised - lots of very scratchy bushes! This path goes straight for a while, then has several zig-zags down before continuing west. Proceed with care so you don’t loose the path! Shortly after the waterfall (only flowing in winter) the path bends back on itself and zig-zags up. This bit would be easy to miss so watch out for it. It then continues west until it meets up with the path coming up from the end of Tafelberg Road. You have two options here:
1. Shorter route: Turn right and proceed down the zig-zags to the lower contour. Go right (east) through the cork-oak grove back towards the block house and back down to Rhodes Mem. You will then have earned a stop at the restaurant!
2. Longer option: Turn left and continue west. There are two branches up to the left, ignore these and continue on towards Oppelskop and on up to the Saddle. Cross the saddle and climb up to the start of the steep climb down Newlands Ravine back to Newlands Forest.

The cache is a small ice-cream container with logbook, spirit-level keyring and toy dog.

This route is not recommended for anyone with a fear of heights.
