A short hike to a lookout site that provides spectacular mountain views
From Detroit, take the Breitenbush road FR 46 4 miles north, and turn left on 4696 towards Elk Lake. After .8 mile, turn left on 4697. Go 4 miles and turn right on 451. After .1 mile you will see the road/trail to Gold Butte- FR 453 on your right. Park here, and it is a 1.5 mile hike to the summit with 500 feet elevation gain.
The lookout building is available for rent. Contact the Detroit Ranger Station for reservations. The cache is an ammo box located near the summit, south of the lookout under some rocks.
