Geocache Description:

The above listed coordinates take you into downtown Humboldt. Work
through the puzzle to reveal the correct location of the
Cache.

Welcome to the “Explore Humboldt” puzzle cache. This cache is within the Humboldt city limits and will take you to some of the more interesting stops in the city. When you get to the cache please be careful to place it back out of easy view. Enjoy!

N42.43.272 W94.13.491 This stop will bring you to an area that gets very little use due to its location. Walk up along the river to the coordinates. The first thing you will notice here is an interesting rock sticking out of the ground. Also take a look at the unique bird houses at this site.

A = the total number of sets of rock steps.

N42.43.095 W94.12.912 A most unique feature in the city of
Humboldt! This was created by Father Doberstein who is also
responsible for the Grotto in West Bend. His travels around the world included many interesting stops, and as you can see he brought a lot of his finds home to IA.

B = The number of letters found in the name of this structure. Do not include the date.
C = The number of words embedded at the base of this item.

N42.43.251 W94.12.955 These coordinates should put you across the street from a unique building. Look to the West and count the number of arched windows. Count only the top row. Humboldt historical architecture at its finest!

D = Number of arched windows in the top row.

N42.43.408 W94.12.969 You should be near a marker for “Humboldt College” which was built in 1872, and wrecked in 1926. Check out the quote engraved in the plate. You are also close to another Humboldt feature. Walk a few yards to the North and take a closer look.

E = The total number of enclosed peaks found here.

N42.43.470 W94.13.048 This is a monument to the founder of Humboldt. Interesting to read about how this city came about. It is hard to image the perseverance it took to establish a community out in the middle of nowhere.

F = The number of letters in the original name
of this town.

N42.43.623 W94.13.729 The “Joe E Reasoner” dam
provides an area for recreation and fishing. From this view you can see Lake Nakomis, and the surrounding area.

G = Subtract the year the dam was erected from the year it was restored.

Cache can be found using the following formula.
N42.Z
Z=((AxB)+F)/2)+((GxC)-(2xE))/(FxFxF)
W94.Y
Y=(D-C)+((D-F)x((D-B)+(A-C))/(FxF))
