INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #219

”Jacob's Mill"

Welcome to the Union Chapel Cemetery, Washington Township, Marion County. This is a large and very well kept cemetery and is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. You will find several pioneer cemeteries here directly behind the Union Chapel Church.

This monument marks the grave of Marion County Pioneer Jacob Whitinger and his family. Whitinger was one of the earliest settlers of this area in 1821. He owned and operated the only grist mill in the area.

This is the grave of Francis M Pursell of Company A of the 70th Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers, Civil War. He was wounded May 15th, 1864 at the battle of Resaca, Georgia and died June 25 of that same year.

This is the grave of George W. Shields, another loss of the Civil War on February 3, 1864. Shields was with Company K of the 14th Indiana Infantry.

The cache container is is a cammo bottle. Please leave it at least as well concealed, if not better, than you found it. If you find fallen or worn US flags at the graves of veterans, please take a moment to upright or replace them. Dispose of worn US flags in a respectable manner.    If you find the coordinates to be a little off, do not hesitate to post a waypoint with your log.  As always, be respectful, and cache in, trash out. God Bless our troops in harm's way.

WARNING:  FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!
