May 25, 1979 remains the darkest day in American aviation. On
that Friday before the Memorial Day Weekend, 270 passengers and
crew aboard American Airlines Flight 191 lost their lives when
their airplane literally fell out of the sky. To this day, the
accident is the most deadly commercial airline crash in United
States history. Here is the story of what happened on that
blusterry Spring day in 1979.More

This cache will take you to the site of this tragic event. I was
hoping to find a plaque or memorial at the site somewhere but it
appears that there never has been one placed. If you are lucky, you
will see a plane depart from runway 32R,the same runway the
ill-fated American Flight 191 did in 1979. Look west through the
fence to view what used to be the field where the plane went down.
You can see the trailer park across the way.Take a moment and
reflect upon what took place here.
There is some rumor that the site is haunted by the ghosts of
the passangers on Flight 191. More info on the hauntings can be
found here.
I have wanted to place a cache in the area but never really took
the time to find out exaclty where it was. I placed this one with
FallenFaery and shared my memories of that day. Thanks to Corp. of
Discovery for the help and kick in the butt to get this one
placed.
