Geocache Description:

A couple of minutes and a world away from Kintetsu Kashiharajigumae station in Asuka, Nara.

The first of four in the Temple Woods series. Large black cache (actually a sealed black obento box from the Japan Korea World Cup soccer games of 2002 that had a training ground nearby with official Geocache sticker).

All of the four caches can be found in 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the order set up, but give yourself time to enjoy this truly wonderful place.

Original contents include a stash of old early showa and Meji era coins, Log and pencil, stash note in Japanese, Travel bug and Geocoin. Plenty of space for other trades.

Birthplace of the first Japanese Empire and ancient imperial courts. The earliest emperors ruled from this area and from around Naniwa, the present-day Osaka. Many of the sights here are legendary or archeological.Today the Asuka area, while conveniently close to Osaka, Nara, and Kyoto, is a relatively quiet farming community with no cities to speak of; Asuka village itself is tiny. The sights are dispersed within an area of several square kilometers which can be explored easily and pleasantly by bicycle along country roads and dirt paths. You can spend a good day here caching and enjoying a Japan that is getting harder to find.

Oh, yes, I know - a Shrine, but to me a Temple to a Scared Natural Ecology.

Congratulations to ATC for the FTF!
