Geocache Description:

The cache is located up Dry Gulch on top of the dam.

Dry Gulch Tailings Dam is the largest earthen structure in the state of Washington. It is designed to hold the worst possible weather event. Its 300 feet in height, 980 feet in width on top ( canyon wall to wall ) & 1600 feet in length. The structure contains approximately 3,000,000 cubic yards of material. See Tailings Dam Photo

Tailings from the Cannon Mine which operated in the 1980s is impounded here.

The trail starts at parking coordinates N47 23.797 W120 19.784. The distance to the cache from the parking area is 0.9 miles. Actual walking distance is about 1-1/4 mile one way. But the hike is worth it. You get a completely different perspective of the valley and Saddle Rock. The maintenance road is not open to vehicles, so you'll have to either walk, ride horses, or mountain bike.

Please stay off areas that are posted as habitat restoration areas.

Enjoy the hike and the view. The Navigatorz
