The cache is a standard ammo can. You can park within 50 feet from the cache. The trip is a 26.5 mile drive from the York Bar. A shorter route is available for hiking.
The Figure 8 route was an 85-mile car tour in the Helena National Forest that wound through the Big Belt Mountains about twenty miles northeast of Helena. Flooding in 1981 destroyed a four mile portion of the road in the Vigilante Campground area near York, so driving the entire loop is no longer possible. The Figure-8 route provides spectacular canyon scenery. This scenic trip made its way through tall cliffs, deep canyons, forested mountains, old sapphire mines, and historical fire lookouts. The water, wildlife, and incredible scenery along the route are well worth the drive and the hunt for the geocaches in this area. I hope you enjoy the cache as much as you'll enjoy the sights.
This cache is a standard ammo can situated near the upper end of the old Figure 8 route where the flooding washed out the road. Feel free to snap a picture or two with the cache camera, and then leave it for the next to shoot as well. I will post the photos once I get them developed.
