Join a Cougar For Lunch At Lake

Lovely view by wilderness Lake. About a 3 mile round trip hike over rolling hills. Not too much elevation gain. I think this land is owned by a logging company. No private property signs so visitors are welcomed.
So what does this title mean anyway? No it’s not an invitation to join a Washington State Alumni for lunch. This is a hike to a wilderness area outside of Duvall that I’ve enjoyed for a number of years and on one occasion I was fortunate or unfortunate enough to see a very large cougar standing 20 yards in front of me when I crested a hill. I’m sure a lot of wild life lovers would have just stood and looked at this magnificent animal but I was consumed with fear; threw rocks and charged it while screaming like a wild beast. My attack was preempted and I’m sure the cougar meant me no harm. If I could apologize to him I would. In total, I’m sure I’ve made the trip to the lake at least 50 times since and have seen not hide nor hair of him.
I tell you this now so that you may be forwarned and if you’d rather not take the chance of joining the cougar for lunch that you could pass on this one. Also if you have small children or little yippee dogs you may wish to leave them at home too. Carrying raw steaks in your backpack may be a bad idea as well. For those brave soles willing to take the risk I would suggest taking a cell phone along in case you take a wrong turn and end up in a maze of logging roads. Cell phone reception is good. For you fishing people, I’ve heard the fishing is good in the lake but you need a small raft to get away from the bank to be able to fish it. The bank has a gentle slope into the water and has too much vegetation near the shore to fish from the shore.
Getting There
Take Cherry Valley Road at N47 46.893 W121 57.989. Note that there is another Cherry Valley road closer to Duvall; this one is not that one but is off the Duvall/Monroe highway, about 6 miles north of Duvall. Take Lk Fontal RD at next branch and you’ll stay on this road until the parking location. The road will branch again, at least one time, but take the Lk Frontal RD branch. It will also turn into a gravel road which you will remain going straight for about a mile so don’t be tempted to take any turns on to any other gravel roads. The first major gate that you come to should have a sign to Camp Hamilton on it. If it’s locked then park at this gate and walk in. Otherwise, proceed to the location N47 47.961 W121 53.822 and park. This is at the next major T intersection with another gravel road. Start walking up the gravel road with magnetic baring 340 degrees and good luck. You should be able to get within a tenth of a mile to the cache with only taking two logging roads. You shouldn’t have to fight any black berry bushes or nettles to get to this one.
When you get to the cache location you’ll be looking for a large plastic container in a black garbage bag. I didn’t have a lot of time to get creative when I hid it so if you get within 50 ft of it then look for the most obvious place to hide a large container.
