Geocache Description:

Black Stevens Conservation Area. Accessed from High School or Plains School parking lots. The area is wooded and hilly, more so after the cache area.

I would like to hear what you think this brick and concrete foundation at N42 13,620 W72 35.062 was. This area consists of 62 acres with streams in deep ravines, a pond next to the high school, and wetlands where an old pond drained. There are alot of trails for hiking and I have seen kids riding their bikes in the area. The pond originally provided high quality water for the paper mill in South Hadley Falls and was named for Dr. M. Gene Black, a former Conservation Commission member and also for the Stevens Paper Mill.It is home to scarlet tanagers, orioles, grosbeeks, thrushes, and ovenbirds. Sunfish, carp, muskrat, and turtles also dwell here. Flora include starflower, pink lady slipper and wild lily-of-the-valley.
