Sawnee Mountain Preserve has allot to offer. A Mountain setting and hike that is close to the city.
This park has hiking, rappelling, restrooms, picnic area, parking, amphitheater and two pavilions.
The Mountain has a great view from the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains on and area called Indian Seats where the Cherokee would sit and used as a signal mountain.
In addition several old Indian Caves and Gold Mines are still on the mountain. When the gold vane ran out the Cherokee would use the cave for storage and defense.
This cache is at the very top of the Mountain off the Indian Seats Trail. This is part of three caches on the Mountain and on each one the terrain gets a little harder as you go up the mountain.
All the caches are just off established trail so no need to do any bushwhacking to speak of. Stay on the marked trails. Do not use the closed trail. You can get to cache from a trail near the top
Get a map from the information kiosk and you can plot your best route to grab all of these.
There are also three Terracaches in the park
