Geocache Description:

From Highway 6 take Dunks Bay Road. Keep on the road side of the rusty wire fence that marks private property.

This is another in a series of roadside caches around Bruce Peninsula National Park. When Parks Canada changes its ban on caches we’ll move closer to interesting sites.

Dunks Bay, at the end of this road, is the only natural sand beach on Georgian Bay near the top of the Bruce. Glacial erosion of tropical reefs and escarpment produced oodles of sand but fierce storms washed it out of all but the most protected bays. Like the rest of this side of the peninsular the water here is very cold, way too cold for more than a brief dip. Over on the Lake Huron side the shallow sloping shore line allows the sun to do its bit and warm up the water to a realistic swimming temperature.
