WHERE: Greenbush Trails, Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit near Greenbush, WI

DATE: Saturday, August 13, 2005

TIME: 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (check in from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.)

The potluck picnic starts promptly at 12 noon.

COST: Free (donations will be accepted and welcomed)

Travel beautiful rustic and winding roads to Greenbush State Park. This area is somewhat different from previous WGA sites in that it is extremely rich with tree cover and deep kettles. Put your GPSr and your search engine to the test!

We have the enclosed shelter reserved. Picnic tables are limited, so please bring your own chairs.

This is an great spot, offering outstanding opportunities and challenges for the serious geocacher. Plenty of hills, deep woods and marginal satellite reception at times.

As usual, we will also have some easier hides on easier terrain as well.

So gear up for the forest and come picnic with us! Leave the restaurants and stores behind. Meet fellow geocachers and put a face to a name!

Please register no later than August 6th, so that we can have enough materials ready for everyone.

Event check in starts at 9 A.M. and ends at 11:30 A.M. (Basically, you don't have to show up at 9 A.M. but you must arrive by 11:30 A.M. to claim the event as a 'find'.) This is a family event, and all participants are requested to act accordingly. (See the park's rules about pets.) This event will be held rain or shine.

We'll have the grills ready for you at 12 noon. The WGA plans to have some ice and bottled water for you. If you prefer soda, please bring your own.

What to bring for the picnic: - Your own meat to grill - Table setting for you and your family (or guests) - Lawn chairs in case we run out of table space - Beverage for your group - A food item to pass Because everyone will be bringing food, please don't bring a large amount (enough to serve your group is sufficient) as we want to minimize leftovers.

To ensure variety, please bring an item based on your last name, as shown below:

Last name A-H: dessert

Last name I-P: salad, fruit, and/or vegetables

Last name Q-Z: chips, pretzels, and/or snacks

We plan to have a number of temporary caches hidden, and there are also existing caches in this immediate area. (If you are interested in helping with the temp hide placements, please post on the "Volunteers needed" thread on wi-geocaching.com)

For cache hunting, bring your GPS receiver. If you don't have one, you can be on a team with others and find out what geocache hunting is all about.

FRS radios: If you have FRS radios, bring them along so you can communicate with each other efficiently. (taunting and cheering are also acceptable and encouraged); FRS channel 7 will be used. We plan to have the FRS repeater system going as well.

We will take a group photo promptly at 5 p.m. near the shelter. All are encouraged to stay for the photo so that we can show what an awesome group of people we had attend our event!

More information to come: We are still in the planning stages, so more event details will be worked out in the coming weeks.

We will keep everyone who registers for the picnic informed via either email updates or forum posts. We are all looking forward to a great event filled with caching, friends, food and fun!
