Geocache Description:

An opportunity to contribute to the great tradition of culinary literature while enjoying a visit to Sunset Park.

Haiku is defined as “a Japanese verse form, rendered in English as three unrhymed lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (total 17 syllables) often on some subject in nature”. And what better natural subject is there than the delectable cocoa tree, source of all things chocolate. No wonder it’s named “theobroma”, Food of the Gods. This cache is your chance to enter the vast semi-charted territory of chocolate literature by composing a small poem – a haiku – to celebrate your favorite form of chocolate.

Summertime ice cream,
Swirled with fudgy chocolate,
Completes a picnic.

TO LOG A FIND FOR THIS CACHE:
Write a tribute to the Great Dark Goddess, Chocolate – in haiku form. Please write your chocolate haiku in the cache logbook and also in your online log. This is not a literary skills test; it’s for entertainment purposes only. Three lines about chocolate - five syllables in the first, seven in the second, and five in the third – and the prize is yours. A park bench close to the cache offers a place to sit while you contemplate chocolate-inspired thoughts. Muggle alert: skateboarders and runners are frequently sighted on the trail, so please be stealthy while you remove and replace the cache. THE DIFFICULTY RATING IS DUE TO THE HAIKU REQUIREMENT; LOGS THAT DO NOT INCLUDE AN ORIGINAL CHOCOLATE HAIKU WILL BE DELETED.

Rich, creamy cocoa
Marshmallows melting atop:
Magic elixir.

Cascades of hot fudge, vanilla-scented truffles, cocoa-dusted cakes, pans of warm brownies, fizzy chocolate sodas - the next best thing to eating them is writing about them. Which exquisite form of chocolate will you choose for your haiku?

Oh yes, a few chocolate-related souvenirs await traders eager to exchange their own cocoa-themed objects. But please don’t leave anything edible – or scented somethings the local critters might find edible!
