Geocache Description:

Frank Bibby (1857-1920) owned Hardwicke Hall (now demolished) and was, amongst other things, Equerry to King Edward VII, Deputy Lieutenant of Salop, Director of the Great Western Railway and Chairman of the Bibby Steamship Co.

Bibby was Patron of the Livings of Hadnall, Grinshill, Clive, Broughton and Preston Gubbals. Apparently he liked to design houses for his workers, being particularly interested in the use of concrete in buildings. This may explain why so many of the buildings in Hadnall are inscribed with “FB” and the date of erection.

To complete this cache you will need a pen and paper, and your maths head on. You’ll be walking on quiet country lanes and footpaths beside a main road, so children will need to be closely supervised. However it is wheelchair/pushchair accessible and there area couple of nice places in the village for lunch or a pint.

We suggest you park at the above grid reference and from there go to N52 46.548 W002 42.578 to find the year of the lychgate, A?B? (ie if the year was 2005 A=2 and B=0).

Use the figures to complete the GR of the lodge at N52 47.BA5 W002 42.772. This was built in the year CD?E.

Next go to N52 46.D1E W002 42.55C and find the year of the house, ?FGH.

From there head south to N52 46.65G W002 42.5JJ where J=F-H. The barn was built in K?LM.

Cross the road and go to N52 46.61L W002 42.NN3 where N=(M÷2)+K. This former barn was built in P?QR.

Go south to N52 46.4SP W002 42.6R6 where S=2P+Q. This house, which used to be the Police House, was built in ?T?U.

Your next target is N52 46.23U W002 42.7V1 where V=T-U. This farmhouse was built in WXYZ.

You now have all the numbers to find the location of the cache at N52 46.abc W002 42.xyz where

a= X-(2J)
b= U+Y
c= D-W
x= 2S
y= N-(2A)
z= Z+M

Good luck!
