A geocache located in a cemetery...nahhh...couldn't be. Well as a
matter of fact, yes, it's finally come down to this!!! But we've
decided that Crawford Co. does not have enough caches and could use
alot more. There are lots of scenic places in the county that would
make excellent hiding places!
This cache is located in the Basham (pronounced BASS-HAM) Cemetery
in the Town of Mountainburg. It's hard to tell at the moment, but
this place was grown-over bad not very long ago and has just been
trimmed and maintained by one of Mountainburg's oldest residents,
Mr.Basham. The first grave to be placed here is marked by a twisted
looking cedar at the SE/Corner. About half of the graves are so old
that they do not have what we would like to see...which is chiseled
tombstones bearing the dearly departed's names and dates of life.
The saddest and bizarre site that I have seen here is the Hoffman
children; whose ages were 2 days, 4 years, 5 years, and 16 years
young. Their departure dates were ALL different, which leaves one
wondering why? One thing you won't have to wonder about here is if
the cache is hidden on a grave. The LAST thing we want to do is
have a cacher disturbing the departed. The cache contains a log
book but no writing utensil and don't block the gate, it's used
often.
