Geocache Description:

Wamego is home to a lot of Historic sights within walking distance like The friendly cooker and the Columbian Theatre where you can see turn of the century murals from the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair. Also within walking distance is the Old Dutch Mill and Museum Complex in Wamego's City Park. Here you can relax at the pond, feed the ducks, and look at the beautiful flowers. Other interesting historical sights in Wamego are the Oz Museum and the birthplace of Walter P. Chrysler

This is the story that started it all. It begins when a little Kansas farm girl, Dorothy Gale, and her dog Toto are blown away in a tornado and land in a fairyland named Oz. Here she meets a very unusual cast of characters - the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion, and together they go on a quest to see the Wizard of Oz, each of them seeking what they want most in life. Making their way along the Yellow Brick Road through a series of hair-raising encounters, they arrive at the Emerald City only to be told by the Wizard that they first must kill the Wicked Witch of the West before he will grant their wishes. They eventually overcome many dangerous challenges and dispose of the witch (although quite by accident), and return only to find that the Wizard is really just a humbug. He craftily addresses everyone's wish but Dorothy's, which is to return home to Kansas. So once more Dorothy and her friends set out, this time to find the Good Witch of the South. These last adventures end happily with Dorothy and Toto returning home, thanks to something she had all along. Where is the land of Oz? Nobody's exactly sure. As Judy Garland said in The Movie, "It's not a place you can get to by a boat or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain. People from the Great Outside World that we live in have traveled there by a number of magical means. Once you get to that world, the Land of Oz is located in the middle of the Continent of Imagination, When Oz was first visited the Wizard was the ruler of the Emerald City, although perhaps not the entire country. He abdicated to help Dorothy return home, and left the Scarecrow to rule in his place. The Scarecrow ruled for a short time, but was usurped by the rebellious General Jinjur, who longed for power and riches. She was quickly overthrown by Glinda on behalf of the long-lost rightful heir to the throne, Princess Ozma, daughter of the deposed King Pastoria. Ozma helped reunite Oz and has ruled with kindness and justice ever since. ********************************************************
