How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Due to interest by local cachers to attempt Lilydale Park Brickyard - Earthcache it was suggested someone set up an event to organize the effort. Comeon, try looking for something new (or very very old).

Where: Lilydale Park Brickyard, meeting in the parking area.

When: Saturday, July 23rd @ 9 AM until whenever (if the permit needs specific time, I'll shoot for 6 hours, so 9-3).

If you plan on attending, PLEASE post a "will attend" or note ASAP and indicate how many people you'll have with you. Since the permit requires knowing the group size, it will be important that we stick to that size group. I will apply for the permit on the 19th or 20th, so anyone planning on attending will need to post a note before then. Hopefully we get a large enough group that we can share the expense of the permit (it's $10 for a group of up to 10 people, or $25 dollars for larger groups).

We'll shoot for rain or shine. If its looking to be completely miserable out, we'll reschedule.

Hopefully this will be an interesting experience for anyone willing to come out and give fossil hunting a try, while also getting credit for an Earthcache. I must admit I've never really done it myself, so I don't have any real tips on what to bring, besides the informational packet available Here. Perhaps one of the local geocachers more experienced in fossil hunting will have some suggestions they can post in a note.
