As Høyås it gets Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

The cache can be reached quite quickly by first driving to a forest cabin, but we prefer a longer walk on marked forest trails. The cache is on top of the highest local hill, with excellent views all round, a popular spot in summer and winter.

The nearest parking place for this cache takes you to within about 600m if you follow the dirt road from PARK1, at a forest cabin (Høiås hytte) much used in summer and winter, open 17:30-20:30 on thursdays and 10:00 to 15:00 on sundays, with refreshments, snacks, etc. This is approached by a forest road.

One can park further away at PARK1 or PARK2 and follow a lit and marked walking/ski trail to the cabin and then the cache, for more exercise :) After these start-points, one can alternatively use a smaller, blue-painted trail if one bears slightly left at Ekelimoen (route shown on a signboard at EKELIM) taking you to the cache before the cabin.

Also in the area is a transmitter tower. On its concrete base you may find some modern "rock carvings" [helleristninger]. Views from the general area can reach as far as Linnekleppen, a high point in Østfold. The area around the cabin and tower is popular in summer and winter with locals, for skiing, walking, orienteering, etc.

The cache is located in light terrain, high enough that the tree and bush cover is not dense, and the climbing is done in the approach to the cabin (so you avoid this if you drive as far as possible). There are splendid views all round. The cache lies close to a maintained trail, marked with blue paint. The box itself is a whiteish plastic foodbox.

We think the scenery, views and exercise you get along the way to this cache are as good as it gets!
