Updated difficulty to open this up to all cachers. This is a nice hike but a necessary change with Geocaching's recent 2017 update. This cache is located about 15 miles North of Ely. There is abundant hiking in the nearby vacinity.
I chose the Sentinel loop because you can bring the family and enjoy a nice hike. The Sentinels are named because the trail hike offers you to see some of the largest virgin pine trees left in the Ely area. From the trailhead, this is a short 1 mile or less hike. To get on the right trail follow the "North Star" & "Trollsway" loop sign. (Far left of three trails.) You'll know you're on the right path if you come across a sitting bench within view of the Sentinels on either side of the path. For a fun walk, seek out the Trolls Bridge loop after finding the cache.
The cache is a small well-hidden tupperware container with various trinkets and a logbook.
Parking is at these coordinates:
N: 47.58.831
W: 91.58.884
From Ely follow the Echo Trail and turn left on North Arm Road and look for the North Arm Trailhead after the road becomes gravel and after you see nearby Camp du Nord YMCA camp.
PS- If anyone measures the tree girth on the path, email me the size. Just curious.
This cache was approved by the Kawishiwi Ranger District.
