A Louder Call for Volunteers Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

bluet: The cache has disappeared since I checked it last Friday. This cache may appear in another incarnation later on but, for now, I think it is better archived. TYVM will remain in place until the start of hunting season so keep looking for those alien invaders!

Geocache Description:

The phone number given for David Dick on the Invasive Species cards is incorrect. It should read 304 558 2212. This cache has been moved to make it more accessible. Having used $17 dollars worth of gas to get it and bring it home I can appreciate that Sutton Lake was a little bit out of the way.

Our 2005 scouting season is now over and our scouts have returned to school. We will still be happy to check out invasive species reports based on this year's cards and encourage you to contact us if you think you have found something. There is currently one set of 2005 cards remaining in the cache. When this is gone, we will not place new cards there until next spring. The new cards will probably be a little different. This cache will remain open through the winter as a travel bug hotel. Keep caching! bluet

Invasive Species are plants, animals and diseases that, while not native to North America, are able to thrive here. Because they usually have no natural enemies in their new environment, they are often able to out compete native species and thus pose a serious threat to the environment. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture, Plant Industries Division, is seeking volunteers in the geocaching community to help fight the threat of Invasive Species in our state. This cache contains 15 sets of laminated ID cards with images and descriptions of Invasive Species of special concern in West Virginia in 2005. It is possible that you will encounter one or more of these Alien Invaders in your ramblings. An early report of an infestation of one of the species can allow us to eradicate it before it becomes established in West Virginia. If you wish to help out, grab a set of cards from the cache and start searching. We are only interested in reports from West Virginia. If you believe you have spotted one of these invaders, mark the site with your GPSr and, if possible, take a picture. Then post a note to this Web Page or email bluet or Dave (ddick@ag.state.wv.us). We will send a scout to investigate your report. If you succeed in locating an invader, we will reward you with a First To Find Certificate for the infestation (Suitable for framing.) and the coordinates for our second cache, TYVM. Happy Hunting! A Call to Volunteers is also a Travel Bug Hotel. Please feel free to drop off or pick up a bug but please do not leave any other trade goods! Please read the ID cards carefully as handling some organisms can be unhealthy.
