A fun adventure in one of Rapid City's most peaceful locations.
This four-step adventure will allow you to experience the peaceful setting of Rapid City's Chapel in the Hills (or "Stavkirke"). The Chapel in the Hills is an exact replica of an 850-year-old wooden church that still stands in Norway. Feel free to explore the buildings and grounds as you take a break from a hectic day of cache-chasing...
Stage 1--Your first stop is a micro cache (small prescription bottle), which will contain the coordinates for your second stage. If the gate is shut, please just sign the log sheet and return another time to finish your hunt. You are welcome to log just the first stage as an official find, but please try to come back and finish the entire hunt. You will be glad you did.
Stage 2--From this location, you will be able to gather information for the actual cache's latitude. What year is located on the grass-roofed building's exterior? Take this number + 923 = XXXX
Final Cache Latitude = N 44 Degrees, 0X.XXX Minutes
Stage 3--Now proceed up the path to the chapel for your longitude clue.
Take the number of wooden crosses located on the exterior of the chapel minus the number of dragon heads on the roofs and add three (crosses - dragons + 3). This value will be Y. Finally, add the total number of entrance doors to the chapel and the number of door knockers (doors + door knockers). This value will be Z.
Final Cache's Longitude = W 103 Degrees, 17.YYZ Minutes
Stage 4--You now have the coordinates to locate the actual cache, which is a plastic paint container originally stocked with items pertaining to the chapel. GOOD LUCK!
