Geocache Description:

The cache is in a medium sized black BDH container underneath a very large limestone boulder, in a very large limestone boulder field on the Eastern flank of Carreg Goch at an altitude of around 520 metres.

The location is a 2 mile walk in from the layby at the Gwyn Arms at Glyntawe.
Do not attempt this challenge unless you have some experience as a hill walker, and you have appropriate walking boots and clothing.
The whole area consists of a massive limestone formation overlaying the vast cave system of Dan-yr-Ogof. As you walk, take care not to fall into one of the many Shake Holes which appear all over these hills without warning. Over thousands of years, water has found its way through the several metres depth of clay overlaying the limestone, starting as a trickle down into the caves beneath, then, as the clay is washed away, opening up wide (up to 20 metres across) funnel shaped holes. Some are large enough for Pot Holers’ to descend deep into the limestone caverns beneath.
This location is particularly significant in that during the second world war, many military aircraft crashed in these hills whilst engaged on active service. Just over the summit, on the remote and wild Western flank of Carreg Goch is the wreckage of a Wellington Bomber No. MF509 (affectionally known as the Wimpey) which came down on the night of the 20th November 1944 with the loss of all of its six crew. The co-ordinates of he wreckage, and the small memorial adjacent, are in the cache. (If you visit the site, please remember that it is a war memorial, and that nothing may be removed)
The cache contains the usual camera and odds and ends for your amusement.
