WARNING During warm weather this is prime SNAKE and Alligator
territory!!! WARNING during Hunting season this area is frequented
by hunters. Please CITO while in the area. There are fish bring
your license and fishing pole. The Mossy Pond Cache is the first of
an anticipated series of Conecuh Trail Caches. This particular
cache begins as a 2-stage multi cache located just off of the North
Loop of the Conecuh Trail, west of State Road 137, about 13.5 miles
south of Andalusia, Alabama.
Both stages of this multi cache are located near Mossy Pond. Mossy
Pond is located in the Blue Spring Wildlife Management Area, which
is located inside the Conecuh Nation Forest. The cache is located
near the Conecuh Trail. The Alabama Hiking Trails Society mentions
the North Loop of the Trail and Mossy Pond at the following web
page:
Visit AHT!. I visited the Conecuh
National Forest Ranger's Station near Andalusia and talked to the
Ranger about the Trail. The station has a number of very good
pamphlets and maps if you plan to visit the area. The Ranger's
office is south of Andalusia on Hwy 29 and open from 7:30 to 3:00
weekdays. There are a number of ways to get to the cache, Walk,
Bike, or drive, depending on your choosing. There are a number of
unimproved roads that traverse the area and several locations where
you can enter the Conecuh National Forest to get to the cache. I
choose these Coordinates (31-09.148N Lat., 086-34463W Long.) to
enter the Management Area. You can choose to Park here and walk
approximately 2.6 miles along the Conecuh Trail to the location of
the cache or you can drive along the dirt road and get closer. How
much closer depends on you! The trail or the road would be a great
off road bike ride to the cache.
