Geocache Description:

Easy find along Main Street in Grantsville, West Virginia.

After the Civil War, the State of West Virgiia approved a new location for the Calhoun County seat. In 1866, a town was laid out on the Simon Stump farm in a sharp bend of the Little Kanawha River. The next year, the town was named Grantsville in honor of the Union general.

In 1883, A.H. (Dick) Stump, Grantsville's first mayor, and his wife, Druscilla Ball Stump, built a house a block from the courthouse. The Stumps turned their home into a hotel Following the deaths of Dick and Druscilla, Miss Nettie Stump, their daughter, opeated the hotel for several years. However, in 1919, Nettie closed the hotel and reverted it to a private residence.

In the years following WWII, the Stump home was remodeled into offices on both floors. It has however, been unoccupied for the past 20 years, remaining in the Stump family, but left unattended and falling apart. It was recently donated to the Calhoun County Historical Society by Dr. Charles albert Stump, great-grandson of Dick and Drucilla. The Historical Society has since been working to restore the structure, with hopes to one day turn it into a museum and vistor's center.

After reports of damp or wet contents, the cache has been replaced. The container now holds: 2 West Virginia stick pins, a Batman action figure, a stuffed Sugar Bear, a copy of The New Testament, a "That's So Raven" key fob, a stuffed Mario, a mini hammer, 2 toy monster robots, and a skating girl action firgure.

As the location is on Main Street in Grantsville, cachers should be stealthy not to draw muggles' attention. Main Street Grantsville is also WV Route 5. Coordinates are for the front of the historic building, which is still in the process of being restored. The decryption below gives specific tips for finding the cache.
