Mac-68 Oddities II-a Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

macatac1961: Tatanka49's note reminded me that there was something I needed to do, check this cache. I just came back and regretfully it is definitely missing. Someone cleared the few bushes that were hiding the cache. I'm sorry to the owners of the travel bugs that disappeared along with the cache. I won't be replacing it, thanks to all who searched for it.

Geocache Description:

Legend of the Lady of the Lake

Another of Long Islands long standing legends. The story has been told and retold many times but it goes something like this:

" On the frozen Lake Ronkonkoma a young woman breathed her last when the faithful ice had failed her and her fateful die was cast. She was grieving for the husband that was killed before they wed, who was murdered by a white man ere they shared their marriage bed.' Some will say she bound her ankles with the stones of nearby shore, That their weight would speed her passing and would bind the oath she swore. For each year some man resembles, in some way, the blood-stained face who had slain her unwed husband and had driven her from grace .So each year she claims another . In the depths of blackened lake, and the Paumanok's own princess shares her cold and endless ache. Oh, the ice on Lake Ronkonkoma conceals a bitter bride who avenges her near-husband on each winter's evening tide "
.... Author Unknown

Some say they've seen an eerie light emanating from deep down in the lake, others swear to have seen the Princess's figure in full wedding attire floating above or just on the shore of the lake.

This cache is a medium sized Lock & Lock with a few small trade items, a WG$ and a logbook. I rehid this in a spot that makes for a quick grab but still a nice spot on the lake. Please watch your step when retrieving it and try to disguise it from passersby when you're done. Parking on the road right near the cache or in the County park lot a hundred yards down Lake Shore Drive.
