Geocache Description:

This quick 3-stage multi on the Uxbridge/Sutton line will explore an area of Lackey Pond. The stage one micro is virtually at the parking area for this popular fishing spot and canoe launch spot. It is a fishing related item with the coordinates written on it. Please rehide properly to ensure it'll be there for the next cacher. The coordinates at Stage 2 are not inside a container and are visible to the naked eye. The final is a green ammo box containing various items.

CACHING INFO..
All three locations should be pretty snow friendly. You shouldn't have to much bushwack at all on any of the stages. The final is along a semi-apparent trail which can be overgrown in spring/summer . It could also be muddy after rain. Take some time to admire the beauty of the pond and check out the waterfall. Although not necessary, you can bring your canoe to do stages 2 and 3 and go check out the rest of the pond..

LACKEY POND INFO..
Less than two years after repairs to an ailing dam were completed, Lackey Pond in Uxbridge and Sutton has rebounded to become important habitat for waterfowl and for people who enjoy all types of wetlands wildlife. From 1991 to the spring of 2000 the dam failed to hold enough water to maintain the impounded section of the Mumford River known as Lackey Pond. Without the backwaters provided by the dam, the Pond dried up with willow and red maple saplings taking root where aquatic plants like pickerel weed and arrowhead once thrived. The 70 acre wetland had been reduced to a scant dozen acres. With major financial help from Ocean State Power and Ducks Unlimited’s Matching Aid to Restore State Habitat (MARSH) Program, plans were developed to reconstruct the dam and restore the wetlands.
After 10 years in the making, the spillway of the newly built dam was closed in the spring of 2000, allowing water to spread over the flats to depths of 6 inches to 3 feet, optimal wetland conditions.

The area is now a fishing spot and a flourishing wetland habitat with ducks, geese, and lots of aquatic plantlife.
