Clan Riffster's historical journey starts here, on the west bank of the lovely St John's River, at the northern most end of The Flagler Trail. Proceed on foot from the Trailhead to the cache. While you're here, you'll see the remnants of Castle McMuggle and Fort Riffster, practically side by side.

Make sure you read the directions for completing this cache series at the bottom of this page, before you start your journey. Special thanx go out to The Skulls, whose idea I blatently stole for this series.

Many centuries ago, Clan McMuggle was known as the most powerful of the tribes of Scotland. They travelled far and wide, planting their seed amongst those lasses impressed by such tomfoolery as wealth, fame and power. In a fit of Democrat like remorse over their success, the McMuggle tribal leaders decided to spread their wealth to those less fortunate, sponsoring a rather doltish family of red-headed step children known as Clan Riffster, in a journey to America, as their guests. Upon their arrival, the McMuggles built a fabulous castle of stone and iron on this spot, which stood for many centuries as a testament to their success. The patriarch of Clan McMuggle, Floridus,
pronounced himself King of this land, which he inevitably named after himself to soothe his bloated ego.
(Any myths you might have heard regarding Spanish explorers should be discounted as fairy tales meant to slur the Scot's).

As is the case with most red-headed stepchildren, Clan Riffster was becoming a bit of a nuisance, constantly underfoot, mucking about in the plans of their betters, which eventually led to a certain degree of angst between the two families. Floridus McMuggle felt sorry for this
squalid group of nose picking goat ropers, presenting Clan Riffster with sufficient gold so they could build their own castle, far, far away.

The Imperial Magus of Clan McMuggle utilized his great magical powers to create magical metal storage boxes known as Ahmoh Kahns, and see through, pliable pouches called Zee Ploks, which he presented to Clan Riffster as a parting gift, to facilitate storage of travel goods which might otherwise be damaged by seasonal torrents. Unfortunately, Clan Riffster elected their leadership based upon their IQ scores, and mistakenly assumed that, like the great Scottish game of golf, lower must be better, which resulted in some amazingly bad judgment calls on their part. After receiving the gift of gold from King Floridus, Clan Riffster decided to invest in French courage potions, which had about as much chance for financial success as the Rosie O'Donnell diet plan. Obviously, they lost all of their gold in this endeavor, and instead of traveling afar, built a shabby wooden structure, (not even the kindest imagination could think of it as a fort), right next to Castle McMuggle.

Clan Riffster was ever a slovenly clan, tossing their detritus out the windows of their "fort", which upset the delicate sensibilities of Clan McMuggle. Many heated words were exchanged between the two Clans, however, they never came to blows until one fateful day when King Floridus was heard describing the Clan Riffster Tartan as "quite a silly attempt at plaid". Those familiar with Scottish heritage know that the Tartan, (a plaid cloth pattern unique to each family), is that family's most sacred icon, and insult it at dire risk. Clan Riffster immediately declared war on Clan McMuggle, attacking their castle with ferocity, pummeling it with sticks, small rocks, pomegranites and fruitcakes, creating quite a racket. The one sided battle raged for days, until the McMuggles grew weary of the noise, at which time King Floridus threw a lit match on "Fort" Riffster. The hovel burnt to the ground in minutes, at which time Clan Riffster fled the battlefield.

Thus begins the grand history of Clan Riffster.....

Directions for completing the series:
You can treat #’s 1 through 4 as stand alone caches, trade swag, sign the log, etc., or, you can treat this as the first stage of a five part puzzle. If you have asperations of finding the final cache, "The Last Stand of Clan Riffster", follow these simple steps:

1) Locate the following caches in any order you choose: "Great Scot (A Riffster`s Tale)", "Clan Riffster's Riverside Retreat", "The Search for Haggis" and "The Tearing of the Tartan".

2) Amongst the swag in each cache, you'll find a section of Angus Riffster's tombstone. These tombstone sections are not trade items, and should be left in the cache. One side of the tombstone is inscribed with the standard, sappy "RIP" stuff, whilst the backside is inscribed with mystic runes.

3) Bring a sheet of paper and a # 2 pencil, and practice the time honored art of tombstone rubbings, transfering a likeness of the runes on each tombstone section to your paper.

4) Combine your four pieces of paper to receate the whole, decrypt the mystic runes, and go find the final stage.

Good luck!
