US 30 – The Lincoln Highway – was the first highway to go from coast to coast linking many major cities along the way. In Pennsylvania it runs from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh connecting such places as Lancaster, York, Gettysburg and Bedford all are historically important towns in Pennsylvania.
Along that route there are traffic circles that must be negotiated by traffic. This cache visits one of them. While you are there check out the mural on the fire hall just to the east of the square. This mural is one of several that are being done along the highway.
When you get to the above coordinates you will need to gather some information to get to the final cache which is a 35 mm film canister with a log. Bring your own writing implement.
You will find 3 dates at this circular square. The first 2 dates are on the corner stone of the church. The third is on the building on the northwest corner of the square diagonally across from the church.
Take the last 2 digits of each date from the church and add them together. Next multiply that number by 2. Now subtract 14 from that number. This number is the last 3 digits of the longitude. Thus you will have: N39.53.xxx.
Next take the date from the building and drop the first digit. Next take the 3 remaining digits and divide by 4. Add 70 to that number and you will have the last 3 digits of the latitude. Thus you have W76.59.yyy.
If your answers take you more than .2 miles away from the square you need to refigure.
Once you have the correct answers you can drive to near the cache area or you can walk if you are energetic. The cache is located in a nearby park where some stealth may be necessary and if a ball game is being played the cache will be impossible to get unseen. Also the park is closed after dark so this is not a night cache.
