It is that time of the year for the annual Lehigh Valley
GeoCachers picnic. This year it is going to be held at the South
Mountain Reservoir located at the end of South 10th Street off
Emaus Aveune. When you get to the park it is a “one way only”, so
you MUST drive all the way around to get to the pavilion to
park.
It will be a “bring your own picnic “ style event. This way you
can eat when you wish and have more time to socialize or cache.
There will be a $2.00 charge per adult (children free under 16)
to cover the cost of the pavilion, which was $70.00 to rent this
year! Any money leftover will go towards the breakfast or next
year’s picnic.
Looking for donations for the raffle, so start looking around
now in getting ideas. Last year’s raffle was a big success! Let me
know closer to the day if you are donating anything so I can get
the bags ready for the tickets.
There is PLENTY of room in the park for more permanent caches,
so anyone interested should just remember where ours is and go from
there.(Not the Sounds of Nature..GCH0RF)
As things progress I will keep you updated, so check from time
to time.
THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT------WE ARE CACHERS, ARE WE
NOT!
UPDATE 9/06/05: Went to check out the pavillion. Lots of room
under the pavillion and there is also a round semi-enclosed stone
pavillion that can be used incase of rain, 3 charcoal grills
available, bathrooms right there.
You may want to bring a tablecloth because some of the tables
are out in the open.
Dogs are allowed in the park provided they are on a 6'or less
lease held by a person who exerts control at all times. Fecal
matter must be picked up. This is what the sign read at the
area.
Plenty of room for more caches. Just a note: The City of
Allentown gave us permission to use the parks for our caching
enjoyment providing that we do NOT hide any caches in an ammo
container. We would hate to see a muggle find one and call the bomb
squad and there goes our caching privilages.
Please let me know if you have any raffle and/or silent auction
items ahead of time.
9/11/2005 I just placed two brand new permament caches in the
park today waiting for approval. They can be found ahead of time or
you can wait until the picnic.
UPDATE: 9/14/05: As of now there are 4 brand new caches in this
park plus one old one. If you do this right you can start at the
picnic and go all around the park in one big loop and end up back
there.
Don't forget to let me know if you have any donations.
I have some charcoal I will bring if any one wants to use the
grills(left over from the SEPAG event)and some paper plates and
napkins.
I am getting nuttier from excitement!
