Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden close to the peak of Stovegolvet (which has an altitute of 703m) on Stord. It has been registered at www.gpsgames.org since April 2005.

The peak offers great view towards neigboring mountains, the islands of Sunnhordland, the Folgefonna glacier and the beginning of the Hardanger Fjord.

During the summer the peak is a popular place to spend the night, as both the sunset and sunrise is described as fantastic!

The peak itself is in 2005 one out of four in Stord/Fitjar that are part of "Topptrimmen". The mountain touring association of Stord and Fitjar places four posts in the mountains of Stord every year, and one of those are at Stovegolvet. Taking part in "Topptrimmen" costs NOK85 and after visiting all four peaks you get a small prize as an award. A controlcard/leaflet can be bought several places, including "Maskinhjørnet" at Leirvik, "Magnussen" in Sagvåg and "Larsen" at Fitjar.

Stovegolvet can be reached from the vicinity of our cache "Bukkene Bruse". Follow the path up until it flattens at Kvelve. From there follow a crossing path to Stovegolvet. For a shorter, but steeper path, start from the parking at N59 50.690 E5 28.272 and follow the path towards the Tysevatnet Lake. A signpost eventually shows the way to Stovegolvet. These two alternatives can be combined as a roundtrip.
